In line with its ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility as a core pillar of sustainable development, Banque Misr has signed a cooperation protocol with Baheya Foundation for Early Detection & Treatment of Breast Cancer, pledging EGP 45 million in support. The funding will be allocated to equipping a CT scan room at Baheya Sheikh Zayed Hospital, enhancing the hospital’s capacity to accommodate more patients.
The protocol was signed in the presence of Mr. Hesham Okasha, CEO of Banque Misr; Eng. Tamer Shawky, Chairman of Baheya Foundation’s Board of Trustees; Mr. Hossam Abdelwahab, Deputy CEO of Banque Misr; and Eng. Magid Hamdy, Member of Baheya Foundation’s Board of Trustees. The signing was carried out by Dr. Fatma El-Gouly, Head of Corporate Communications at Banque Misr, and Mrs. Laila Salem, Member of Baheya’s Board of Trustees, with senior representatives from both the bank and the foundation in attendance.
This protocol underscores Banque Misr’s continued support for the hospital and its mission to empower breast cancer fighters. The CT scan equipment, to be installed in the radiology department at Baheya Sheikh Zayed Hospital, will play a crucial role in improving diagnostic accuracy, monitoring tumor development, and determining its spread.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Hesham Okasha, CEO of Banque Misr, affirmed that the signing of this protocol reflects the bank’s strategic vision as a key partner in achieving sustainable development. He emphasized that investment in health and education remains one of the most important foundations of genuine development. He further noted that supporting Baheya stems from Banque Misr’s belief that healthcare is a fundamental right for all citizens, and that empowering women and supporting breast cancer fighters is an integral part of the bank’s community role.
Okasha also highlighted the bank’s commitment to aligning with Egypt’s Vision 2030 across all initiatives, with a strong focus on enhancing the quality of healthcare services and ensuring fair and efficient access for all citizens. He stressed that Banque Misr’s community contributions aim to complement the state’s efforts to build capable citizens who enjoy a dignified life, adding that the bank will continue supporting health and education projects that contribute to social justice and improved living standards, believing that true development cannot be achieved without investing in the Egyptian people.
For his part, Eng. Tamer Shawky, Chairman of Baheya Foundation’s Board of Trustees, extended his gratitude to Banque Misr as a strategic partner and a steadfast supporter of Egyptian women. He noted that Baheya has provided early breast cancer screening for nearly 300,000 women through its two facilities, Baheya Al-Haram Center and Baheya Sheikh Zayed Hospital, both equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology for diagnosis, treatment, and the application of the latest global protocols by a highly qualified medical team. Shawky emphasized that the CT scanner is a vital addition to the diagnostic imaging department, significantly enhancing the precision of cancer detection and staging, with an estimated 10,000 scans expected to be performed annually once the equipment is fully operational.
As one of Egypt’s leading institutions in corporate social responsibility, Banque Misr remains committed to setting a positive example among financial institutions by adopting sustainable development principles that positively impact society at large. In this regard, the bank continues to actively participate in initiatives targeting health and education, while also empowering the most vulnerable segments of society, thereby contributing to the state’s efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.
